In “The Four-Chambered Heart,” Anaïs Nin eloquently describes how we are often forced into fitting into a social norm. In this classic piece of work, Nin’s symbolism is arguably her best as she ultimately concludes the external world will always have an effect on the internal world and for those who don’t conform, the result will always be transformation.
